Brand new Schrick cams have a dull plasticky looking coating on the cam lobes. Is it designed to help break in? Leave it? Clean it off? No darn directions
Thanks, Bob
Take a 4.5" angle grinder to them..
Ok, seriously, don't do that... I believe the coating is a protectant/lube. DO not remove it. (that's my wild ass guess)
Clean the cam with acetone and lint free towels, lube the thing, install.
No matter where you go, there you are...
If you have questions call the company that made the cam
Here is the answer. If that's not good enough, maybe you should call the supplier.

And I did, in fact appreciate RRSperrys opinion/answer (self described as a "wild ass guess.") Any amount of experience is helpful. It was the second answer that I quoted, and that was not very helpful, that sparked my sarcastic response. In any case, I always appreciate whatever help I can get. For the record, I did contact VAC and was told that the coating on Schrick cams is to be left in place. Hopefully, that will help the next person searching for an answer.
