Are all m50/2 starters the same?

The starter went on my 95 525i and I am wondering if the starters are the same on all M50/2s. I would assume they are but I'd like to make sure before I go looking for one.

pretty much yes. there may be some slight differences but all the M50/52 and M20 starters(to the best of my knowledge anyway) will interchange. SOME have one threaded hole on the starter itself so if your has that and the replacement does not you'll need a longer bolt and a nut.
