Hi guys,
New to these BMW forums (wife drives a 2010 528i) I am a regular in the VW forums (2016 GTI).
I did some searching but I was also hoping to get some more specific input on the issue that we are having.
Somewhat recently we have noticed a bit of a thunk / hesitation when under mild / moderate acceleration. For example, when coming around a corner and the transmission is shifting from 2 to 3. No error codes. Car starts and idles fine etc.
The dealership had a look and confirmed no error codes. They reset something that my wife wasn't able to explain (adaptations perhaps?). However, this has not resolved the issue.
Their recommended next step is to replace the plugs and coils. Which seems logical to me since the car has 128,xxx KMs and still running original plugs.
We were also concerned that it might be transmission related. However, in some trial and error testing that I did post-dealership visit, I can readily reproduce the problem in manual mode with moderate throttle, at under 2,000 RPMs. So to me, it wouldn't appear to be transmission related since it occurs in manual mode.
Anyway, we will most likely head to the dealership soon to have the plugs and coils swapped out. But I was just wondering if anyone here had any other related recommendations / advice?
At what mileage do people tend to replace the plugs on these engines? How about auto trans fluid swaps?
Thanks in advance!
Did changing plugs and coils fix the issue?
Apologies for the delayed response. Yes, changing the spark plugs and ignition coils did resolve the issue.
what do you mean by a thunk? when i first got my '08 528i i noticed i would also have a "thunk" sound coming from the rear during heavier acceleration/braking which turned out to be my battery improperly installed (it was sliding around & led to me needing to buy a new battery b/c of bent plates )
there should be a long silver screw type piece with a bracket at the bottom of it that screws into the bottom of the battery compartment if this is what your issue is
It was hesitating consistently between 1500-2000 RPM. Became more easily reproducible over time.
