    2000 E39 stereo issues and a question

Need some more help sorting out some stereo issues. I have asked before, and have received some good info, but I amy not have been asking the proper questions. I am getting more knowledgeable as I work on the car, and may be able to ask more intelligent questions. I issues I have are threefold:

    1) The radio plays for about 25 seconds and shuts off and comes right back on when you cycle the power switch. I have a second radio module on it's way to see if this fixes the issue
    2) The nav screen just shows static lines. I have checked all the connections and I find nothing that seems damaged.
    3) The radio info rarely shows up on the instrument panel. I have only seen it once for a brief period, otherwise I would not have know it did that.

As I swap the dash nav unit with a second one and I swap the Hifi amp, do I need to have any code work done?

Car has 4:3 navigation system in the dash, in the trunk is a GPS antenna, HIFI amp, radio module, Mk3 nav computer and a CD player.

Car is a new to me 2000 540/6 speed with 56k miles. Build date is May 2000. This is my 5th E39, so I am fairly knowledgeable about the overall car. The stereo issues are a bit baffling as I think I may be chasing two or more issues. I HATE taking it to the local dealer, so I am trying parts swapping as I do not know how to tech check these parts.

As always, any advice is helpful and appreciated. In the past, i would give back any knowledge that I had to help other E39 owners. After a five year break, I am relearning about these great cars. Planning on getting this one right and keeping it for a long while (at 66 years old, maybe until I cannot drive!!!)

Got everything resolved. Major issue was the MK2 navigation computer had some fault. Replaced it with a MK4, and removed the GPS trimble. That brought back my display. Still had the radio work for 30 seconds, then shut off. I realized I had the original amp and swapped it back in. Radio works great now. From what I could tell, my other choice was to get the replacement amp coded to wrk with the rest of my system.
