after 18 yrs........Im kinda thinking about a full weekend of paint correction
but Im scared...lol
any1 do it?..
Don't wet sand your car. Wet sanding should really be left to single stage paints or specific circumstances for paint correction. Even our non-metallic Z3 paints are two-stage.
Wash, claybar, buff, polish, wax... sure!

I had read both sides of that convo.............and I do understand your stance
Wet sand where needed, but not before trying a rotary and M105.
There's not much that that combo can't correct.

I use a PC da , and always use 105/205
You are correct to exhibit trepidation--wet sanding and buffing is a learned skill with a steep curve and a serious downside if you screw up even a little. It would not be a good idea to start that curve out on your own car that you like. For the amount of work you would have to do to learn how to do it competently and not destroy something very expensive to fix, you are way better off taking it to a professional and having them do it right without harming anything--like your paint for instance. A good professional detailer with a physical shop location and a waiting list, or a front line experienced body shop are the best places to go.
I have performed what I call color sanding twice on my car to get out the brillo-pad scratches it came to me with. I usually start with 3M pads in 2000 grit, and work up to 5000 grit which leaves a slight matt, with a hint of sheen. I use these wet with a hard rubber block. Hit it with a rotary polisher at about 1200-1500 rpm using 3M 05973 and the appropriate foam pad, followed by 3m 05996 with a black foam pad, and it is near flawless. I have done about a dozen cars like this, and getting pretty confident with my tecnique, though a couple years ago, I messed up my girlfriend's black GTI in a couple spots because there was almost no clearcoat over the base coat.
I do have stains from local bugs that left the paint impregnated with tobacco brown marks on my Alpine car that sanding and buffing doesn't touch. They crawl up under the car cover and die, staining the paint.

I use a sanding block to wet sand rock chips.
Ospho if its to the metal.
I use a toothpick to slowly add paint to the chip void over several days.
The paint dries and sucks in when it shrinks, but eventually you have a nice dome covering the whole chip.
Then wet sand very gently the dimple till its flat.
Then 105/205 and wax away.

White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters.
I like Coupes.
