Hi all, am in the final stages of cleaning everything prior to reassembly. Anyway, after lifting valley pan I have discovered quite a few areas where the gasket has failed and very hard calcium deposits have formed on the gasket fitting surface! Any recommendations as to how to dissolve this without damaging the aluminium?
Also, rather than detach the crimped lower cover which overlays the oil pumps inlet (to allow cleaning of the timing guide remnants from the wire strainer), I decided to disassemble the pump instead. This allow pretty easy cleaning of the entire pump and I flicked out all of the debri tucked under the outer crimped cover using a combination of a large bent safety pin and a piece of flat packing tape. There is no gasket to worry about though I have to wait for my Bentley service manual to arrive for the torque settings!
thanks John
Maybe try Simple Green Like Scale Remover?
Also here's a torque value guide. It's all keyed to the TIS, was very helpful.
