This suddenly started today. The little microswitch in the striker assy. on the door jam appears to be working properly, and the electric window goes up and down normally, except it stops about 3" from the top. Same thing happens with the door open or shut.
What causes this? Faulty switch? If so, can I swap driver and pax side switches to isolate the problem?
How to proceed?
If may have to do with the regulator or motor itself. If so, take a look at the link below to our site's DIY tech article on the repair procedure.

The window mechanism is hitting an obstruction. You're going to have to remove the door panel and observe the many moving parts.
This is not an issue with the Door Closed Switch.
Close the door and turn the key to Position II (RUN) before Engine start. Use the window button to fully raise the window without stopping. NOTICE that the window button has a click in the middle of its travel, window movement before the click is manual mode, after the click is automatic mode. Raise the window in the manual mode without stopping. This will teach the window what the upper limit of travel is. Lower the window then use the automatic mode to raise it again. This should take it to the upper limit. If the upper limit is not the top, then you have an obstruction somewhere inside of the door. If the window is at the upper limit, it should drop and raise when the door is opened then closed. (Upper limit is the extent of the available travel, Top is the actual top of the window travel. If the window is working correctly, the upper limit and the top is the same place.)
