Hi All, am progressing with what has become essentially an overhaul of wearable components and elected to drop oil pump as I'm going to replace chain and to ease the removal of aluminium shrapnel caught in course filter. Anyway, now that I hav that removed, I can see a fine layer of aluminium dust on the underside of the metal shield that is immediately beneath the crank. There doesn't appear to much if any above it but a most of the underside is coated with it. There was a fair amount of aluminium gauged out of the front (central) guide cover so I presume that is the source. I was just planning on wiping as much of it off as possible and assume (hope) that bearings are ok?? Thoughts ?

Chain guide worn down to the aluminum backplate, causes shavings to appear.
