Hey everyone,
I need some help.
I had to sell my 2007 335i recently and now I'm looking for a new ride.
I was offered a 2011 335d with 96k miles for $10k.
I wanted to see how your experiences are and if that's something you would see to leave alone or to take it.
My alternative is a 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5l SL.
Sorry if that has been discussed before. I would love to get some feedback from you guys.
Thank you

They are poorly engineered, expensive to maintain, they are way to complicated for what better mpg and torque.

Because it's reliable. My wife has put over 50k on it in two years. I've replaced the tires, changed the oil, and did a set of brakes. That's it.
Same with my Tundra, except for the shitty door lock actuators. I've replaced three, and now the 4th works when it wants to.

Except for an out-of-range injector, my 335d was just as reliable as your Tahoe for the first 50K miles. FYI, I'm now at 122K and have never had need for CBU cleaning - only problems have been the DEF/SCR, since then. The rear brakes were done before maintenance ran out at 48K; I just this month replaced the front brakes, so I win there.
My V6 '95 T100 has 135K on it. Needed a new head a couple years ago after a spark plug twice got spat out. IME, Toyotas are just as expensive to maintain as BMWs.
Look, just saying that all cars have foibles. IMHO, the N20/26 are less reliable than the M57 - think about the vacuum pump, timing chain, valvetronic positioning motor, etc. The N54 obviously had problems. The M57 cars were used as a test subject for the emissions system by BMW; note that the N47 F30/X3 has a re-designed system because of it.
Unfortunately, bimmerforums doesn't have a very active 335d/X5d/328d community (bimmerfest and e90post/f30post do, btw.) As almost the only diesel owner here that posts often, I'm just trying to keep an even-handed view of the situation vis-a-vis BMW diesels. Bottom line is: we love the cars, but acknowledge that there are problems. But all BMW owners buy BMWs in spite of knowing they're going to have problems.
I would not get any BMW at 100k ... They are crazy expensive to maintain and not the most reliable vehicles
If they have a good maintenance history they are not that bad. I've owned a 2003 e46 with 130k miles with a good history and only thing I've changed was the fuel pump. Now I have a 2011 335i with 114k miles and it's done me good. You just want to make sure you know what has been done to it, maintenance wise.
I have a 2011 335d with 48,000 miles on it now. Zero problems. knock on wood.
How does one start a new thread.....Im NEW and cant figure this out?
