BaT charges a percentage to the buyer whereas ebay does not. It is obviously cheaper to buy on ebay for the buyer.
Does ebay get a higher selling price??
Autotrader.com - a lot bigger audience, plus you can get best price.
'93 850Ci - Mineralweiß Metallic
2001 740iL - Titansilber
ALPINA B7 -Alpinweiß III
...the price of cool ain't cheap!
Depends how hard you want to work to sell the car. IMHO,
EBay is easiest but probably the least profitable for a seller. Modest listing and sales fees to seller.
BaT is a bit of work (detailed pics, a weeks worth of watching your auction and answering numerous questions from potential buyers), but usually brings a higher price for a seller than eBay. $99 listing fee to seller
Autotrader is max exposure and usually a bit of work to dialog directly with potential buyers to actually show them the car. If they are out of state, you'll need just as many pics as for BaT. If they are local they'll want to see the car in person and you'll have to adapt to their schedule if you really want to sell which can be a hassle. Depending on your face-to-face negotiating skills and theirs, it is likely to bring the highest price of the three. I think it's around $40 for a seller to list your car and the ad runs until it sells or you remove the listing.
Craigslist is not the place to sell a car like this (unless you are in LA or SF where even Ferraris sell on CL). Too many flakes and no-show appointments to make it worth your while. Only bargain hunters search here (again, except LA and SF), so your sale price is likely to be lower than other options. $0 to list, though!
Hope that helps...

There is a Mauritius blue six speed on BaT right now, and the price is only $9150 with 7 hours to go. And this 8 has real Alpina wheels!!! Shocking that it is now commanding a higher price.
It's the high mileage (164K) that's keeping this one down. The non-CSi e31's which have recently sold for big $$ (low to mid $30k's) all were very low mileage cars in stock configuration -- and some of those were automatics. Makes sense . . . if someone is going to step up to the plate and pay collector car prices, they are expecting a collector quality car. The trend right now is low mileage originals.
Sean
Mr Sean speaks the truth. High miles, unknown suspension mods, and limited recent use (possibly due to emissions issues) are keeping the price down.

sold for $14k, mostly because of the lack of satisfactory public response from the seller on the smog questions and the puzzling date of last registration vs the "major service" 9 months ago.
Certainly seems like a good buy at that price, really.

BudgetM3 - I saw your car in the Yorktown area driving Rt 17 when I lived there. I think it was 2001 or 2002. It was near a place called East Coast Exotics.
I got a chuckle when I saw the car and the license plate!
Cool! I was in Yorktown from 2001-2004. I loved that car. After I supercharged it, the car was easily equal to the "real" M3's at the track. That little 1.9l was the ultimate sleeper. I finally sold it just last year to free up garage space for the E31. Thanks for the memory!

$14,700 including buyer's premium. I was seriously considering it. I was waiting for the bidding to stall and would have taken a gamble at $12-13k but with no answers to all the open questions I was unwilling to to roll the dice at $15k or more. It will indeed be a good buy if it needs less than $10k of work. Hopefully the buyer will show up here and let us know!
