Has anyone had good or bad experiences with this gasket? It costs about 1/3 of BMW brand, but with the amount of work involved I don't want to do the job again soon. I don't mind paying for the BMW gasket if it is worth it. I have used a lot of reinz gaskets on my e30 without issue but I have heard their m20 head gaskets are not good so it seems like a case by case basis. Thanks in advance for the input.
I replaced the OFHG on my prior 2006 325xi with one from Victor Reinz. It stopped the leak, and held up over the 25K miles I had the car for after replacement.
That said, if you're worried about it all, it's impossible to argue with the BMW branded one.
I had great luck with the Victor Reinz OFHG on my 2007 335i. Victor Reinz is actually the OEM for a bunch of BMW gaskets, maybe even this one.
The job itself isn't too bad. I made an afternoon of it and did my walnut blasting and OFHG at the same time. Hopefully that brittle plastic coolant pipe doesn't break on you, though an aluminum replacement is available.
I would get a BMW gasket for the piece of mind and warranty. The only experience I had with VR gaskets, was on an M54 valve cover. The brand new gasket leaked and the customer had to pay for the repair twice.
