So a few years ago, around 3 or 4 I was stupid and called AAA to unlock my BMW X3.. they ended up breaking the manual door lock. So for years I haven't been able to unlock the door manually and have had to rely solely on the key. Now for the past two years I've had my car in Texas and when I go home the battery always ends up dying, but the key still works and unlocks the door electronically when I get back. Now this last month I have been in Indonesia on an internship came back and my battery is dead (as usual), but this time door wont unlock and I cant use the key hole to get in. From my perspective if there's a way to pop the hood from the outside I can charge the battery and unlock the car. Some important things to consider: this has never happened before and for the first time I had my friend every couple weeks or so come by and warm up the car for 15-20 min so it wouldn't die, he told me it started up fine 4 days ago. Please help.
Jack the car up take the belly pan off (8mm). On the drivers side look for the starter there is a large power cable on there. Attach a jumper to that and then hit unlock. I usually use a little "alligator clip jumper" if It's tight. You don't need much power to unlock the car as you already obviously know

You should be able to connect a ground anywhere to the body where there is bare metal. Even the outter casing of the starter. Just don't get zapped if you do that as your going to have a power there already
