I believe my amplifier is toast as my head unit shows power/channels but I am getting no sound. I checked fuses in the fuse box and all looks good. I would prefer to get my hands on a stock amp in order for it to be plug and play. If anyone has any suggestions, or has one kicking around from an aftermarket conversion I would be very happy! BMW OEM part number is 65.12 - 8 399 683.
I think I have one. I'll check this afternoon
My 97 2.8 has one in the trunk. If its the one you're looking for I'd gladly pull it and bypass the thing.

You may want to verify the "amp on" white wire in the harness is hot (+ 12vdc) before you replace it. Meter from the small white wire to chassis ground with the stereo on. If it's good the your amp may be toast. Did this suddenly happen ?
i had the car in storage at my inlaws for the winter and the battery died. My wife's dad thought it a good idea to boost it and i am not certain if he did it correctly as i was not there. I went to pick it up late spring and the radio displayed but no sound. All of my research points to the amplifier in the trunk, but again i am just learning about this particular issue.
Working on a replacement, JesterMX6. Once that is sorted out i will give you an update. Thank you for the helpful reply.
Not to be a Smart Alec, but just to be on the safe side, did you enter the radio code after the battery died?
^^^^ditto
I have an amp if you need one. PM me.
White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters.

Yup. I have my code and have tried. I learned after it should say 'code' if that is what is needed.
