Just bought a 97 328 convert
That has 17" rims from another BMW
Not sure what , but they seem to push the tires out just past the body and the sidewalls
Are getting destroyed on bumps.
Can someone tell me how to fix or what year these wheels Are off of?
If I can post a picture somehow?

What is the tire size and the ET of the wheels?
Here some info https://www.wheel-size.com/size/bmw/3-series/1997/
Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Looks like the wheel offset is too far. Did you check if there are spacers behind the rims? If you want to continue to run that setup you can roll the fenders. Can you give us a picture of the offset with the fender and wheel( a picture from the front or above the car showing how much the tire is sticking out)?
I believe those are style 290s off of a Z4

You need higher offset wheels so they tuck under the car and away from the fender lips, more negative camber, a higher ride height, or a combination of those.
That said, that looks like a front and on an E36 you should have boatloads of room to the fender in front even with a low offset wheel. How wide are the wheels and tires, and are there any wheel spacers in there? On my M3 I could go from the stock 17x7.5 ET41 225/45 to a 17x9 ET30 (including spacer) 245/40 with no clearance issues and my car is lowered about an inch.

Its a rear wheel picture
Front has plenty of room
Tire is a 215 45 17
I have to check for a spacer

WOW!!! If you push down on the rear fender just above the taillight does the body bounce right back? Your shocks might be toast.
Wheel offset appears to be the issue 7 1/2 wide 17 inch diameter E36 wheels are typically ET41, can go as low (or high) as ET35. I think you have ET27, not good.

Yeah man, just judging your ride height you shocks are blown and your car is bouncing around like a jalope. You should not be rubbing like that. get some new shocks.

Ok
So I push on the back corners of the car
And get no movement at all
Like it's stuck at that height.
The front I can compress
What's causing that?

This.
The wheel is too wide and the offset is to low. More correctly, the combination of wide and offset puts the tires into the fender.
Factory fitment for the E36 is a 7 or 7.5 inch wide rim, with an ET (offset) of 41. You have a width of 8, which is 13mm wider than stock, plus your offset is 12 mm less than factory fitment. Combined, you are pushing the tires outboard by a full inch, which is causing the rub. The tires you should have should be 225/45x17, but these would rub worse than the tires you have.
You might be able to roll the fenders outboard a few millimeters so that the tires clear.

Just roll your fenders. I run 18x9.5 ET25 with a 245/35 and don't rub. You probably just need a slight roll and problem fixed. Your spring/shock issue sounds normal for a stiffer setup.
Eastwood has "The Roller" for cheap.

Or the old fashion way with a (wooden) baseball bat.

I bought a roller from either ebay or amazon but you may be able to get away with a wooden bat since you dont need much. the roller was worth it though..
Okay , I'm a "stance" kid . So you're on stock suspension correct ? if so you most likely have blown shocks giving your spring too much play causing the wheel to shoot into the fender. the way to check . is to simply bounce the side of the car and it shouldn't bounce back up more than 3 times nor be easy to push down. Alternate way that costs no money is to roll the inner fender lip upward and in using a heat gun so you won't chip the paint & ****lightly tapping the metal in with a hammer*****(don't use a metal one) Or get some smaller width tires
I think I'll just go with the correct wheels
Will the later year 3 series fit no problem?
I see a lot of early 2000 wheels from 3 series for cheap

Did you check to see if the wheels had spacers behind them?
