    wing mirror replacement motor

hi, im looking for a replacemet electric motor for wing morror. i have seen brand new ones on ebay, but advertised for all sorts of different car makes and models. alot of them look identical to what im looking for, even on the back side where the electricl socket is. some of the seller have an option for "which model of car" fitting. when i enter my details is says "this item doesnt fit your vehicle". does anyone have any experence of this?

If there is mentioned it does not fit your car, it will not fit your car. First of all use the realoem http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select and find with your car VIN the correct part number, then you can search with that part number.
You should also add some more car details like built year/month to your profile, this is not enough

because there were always changes when there was a facelift, so the p/n must exactly fit your car.
For my E32 there were even 2 different electric motors for the mirrors, one version electric, the other version in spec for seat and mirror memory, completely different design and number of wires also different.

thanks for your advice. im guitly of not using my brain, just assuming folks like yourself know my car details. thanks again. the mirrors on my car are actually e39 M5 mirrors, not the standard square shape.

still not enough info, let's assume, E39 M5, EURO spec, right hand drive, built year 01/2000, then you would need http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...9-BMW-M5&mg=51
motor is not available as single item. Maybe you buy damaged cpl. mirrors and transfer the motors.
I will move this thread to the E39 forum, maybe someone has an idea there

Realoem calls out a "repair kit" for my car, item 9, probably for yours, too: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_2252

Enter the last seven characters of your VIN.

Dude has come to the right place.

Drink 17 jumbo monster energy / redbull drinks to stay awake, then read this:
    https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...Knowledge-Bomb

There will be a test afterwards to see if you stayed awake.

Before you get there here's some cut to the chase:

YES, you CAN source and replace the individual motors inside the units from parts from other cars, however there are 'left hand' and 'right hand' polarity issues, and, there's vertical-vs-horizontal issues.

This means depending on whats' broken, you either use straight up a VW part, or, pull motors out of GM or VW parts, and swap them into yours if you know all the secret handshakes.
