ok preliminary worry and fact finding...
1) is it hard to drop a transmission on the X3 in a home garage?
2) Does anyone have a used/rebuilt supplier that could supply a transmission?
3) Has anyone worked with AAMCO and do they rebuild these things anymore?
bucking and making noises...mechanic aid it could be solenoid or wiring....they have to diagnose.
Would Advanced Auto be able to read codes for this problem?
Advanced auto will be no help.
dropping the trans at home is entirely dependent on your level of skill and access to tools/lift. I don't recommend it though.
AAMCO should be able to rebuild it as it's just a GM trans but you'd probably need it programmed after or atleast adaptions reset by BMW.
i don't think you can get ahold of any supplier yourself but you can usually find used ones all over the Internet such as eBay and salvage yards.
lastly you need proper diagnosis before shot gunning an expensive part like a transmission; it could be something as simple as a transfer case actuator
This is son's X3. I picked it up from mechanic. Coolant leak needs to be fixed prior to transmission research. I got in and started car and drove off. I am gentle with foot and speed. The car did not buck at all and I had it up to 60mph. With that 15 mile trip, I was actually happy as it maybe wire harness or something not major as full replacement. So I am optimistic that maybe fix is not major.
But if X3 was up on jack stands and had floor jack on hand for transmission, could it be removed?
Personally I would stay away from amcco, I would find a complete in the box trans like what the dealer sells or you could call lkq and see what type of used trans they have find one with low miles
I wouldn't worry about the lifetime tranny fluid. I had 99 z3 with 197k that had never been touched the entire time other than two times I had level checked.
Ok so the hose that goes from head to thermostat was leaking and sprayed antifreeze all over. The serpentine belt and tensioner stuff was removed and replaced. But I degreesed the engine first scrubbing everything with brush and toothbrush. Grime was everywhere. After everything was replaced, I changed oil and added moly and also injector cleaner. I have driven several times and the bucking has stopped. Could the leak have sprayed on a sensor connection causing mss reads and the bucking? No fault lights went on. There was a lot of goo from dirt/antifreeze . Just hoping buckets nc is gone for good.
