brake light socket interchangeable

I'm having trouble finding a brake light socket for a reasonable price and was wondering if other sockets from other models of cars would work? Thanks!

to find out if a bulb socket from another BMW model fits, use the realoem http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select with your VIN, find the correct part number, copy it and paste it in PART NR APPLICATION SEARCH in the realoem and all BMW models with the same p/n will be shown
