Hey guys quick question, my power steering pump is grinding when i start the car and when its stationary. I think the fluid needs a flush. My question is if i delay it for like 2 or 3 weeks do u think that would cause major damage to the system or what
Quick update i emptied the fluid in the container and filled it with new fluid it feels a little better
Jack,
Having been in the parts business for many years and having sold a line of poer steering components, I found that many problems came from having hose particles fuff off from inside the power steering lines and they tended to plug up the pump. If you can syfon off as much fluid as possible and replace with fresh fluid several times you maybe able to salvage the entiresystem. Maybe even look for power steering conditioning fluid.

Hey so update to my situation, changed the return hose to the fluid container and have flushed most of the old fluid out and replaced with new dexron III. My question is, and that is because i read somewhere that the system is picky, is it possible that the system doesnt like the oil im using. Because when it warms up there is no noise at all when driving and when im stationary and changing direction there is a tiny bit of noise. Im thinking i shld change the oil to a different kind and what wld you recommend. I have access to castrol dexron III. Would that work in ur opinion.
my e30 has the same problem. it grinds when first starting. i believe it's due to a leak somewhere in the power steering
