Brake fluid as "Tire Shine" ?

Has anyone tried brake fluid as a tire "shine"?
I know that brake fluid will discolor paint, so do not get it on the wheel itself....
I am trying it as a test on one wheel.

Why? Why not...I have at least 4 unopened containers of DOT 3 fluid, (unless you have a 20 year old car it's useless) I read somewhere that the "shine" lasts a long time...and certainly it won't hurt the rubber!

    Daka,
Tire rubber has lots of chemicals, binders, in them to keep the rubber molecules from breaking down prematurely. Carbon powder is one of the binders.

I'm not a chemist, not even close, but if brake fluid can leach a bit of the binders out of the rubber, it will deteriorate way too quickly and tire failure can result. Now imagine a tire blowing out while doing 80 on an interstate highway.

Or in a moment of weakness, you apply too much and get sling onto your paint.

I'd donate the Dot3 to a local car club and use a tire coating like that new Turtle Wax product or McKee's 37 product if you want a long term solution.

    No.

For one, it's very nasty stuff and if you rub it all over your tires then the residue is going to run off when they get wet. It's not any more environmentally friendly than rubbing your tires with used motor oil to keep them black. Also, you're gonna mess up your paint unless you plan on never getting so much as a drop on your wheel or car body, ever.

One you get moving, centrifugal force will throw brake fluid all over the wheel well, fenders, bumpers doors, etc...

I used very little, put it on with a foam brush.....no slinging so far, still testing against regular other "shine" on rear wheel...
