I'm reading your post as saying it has 40K miles. My experience is that a low mile E60/E61 is great. If the sunroof cartridge has not leaked, remove the end plugs on the drain hoses, and that should prevent a soaked trunk. Also, change the transmission fluid at 60K. Lastly, at just over 100K miles we experienced failures in numerous major systems. Failed transmission, AC pump, fuel pump, leaking shocks, passenger airbag sensor mat, liftgate pump (we have an E61), leaking oil cooler seal. All those issues add up to well over the vehicle value. In other words, you need to be a competent mechanic to make keeping a high mile E60/E61 economically viable. In return, you get a fantastic luxury family sedan that is a pleasure to drive.
