Adding modern car radio or sat mac combo to 2004 x3

Has anyone swapped in a modern stereo or stereo with satnav into their 2004 or later x3 ?
I suppose the cubby box on top is the most obvious place and there's a few on ebay..
I'd consider changing out the business cd and fascia if that was simpler and or worked better.

My skill level for car work and audio is high.
