1995 M3 LTW, S54 swapped by Bimmerworld back in 09.
Since I don't know the motor VIN...until we dropped the pan and started pulling bolts/bearings we had no idea what year this motor was. Turns out to be an early car. Runs great but wanted to baseline it and replace bearings as had no documented history of bearings being changed when I purchased it.
How can you tell if the bearings have been replaced before or if they are original?, anything we should be looking for on the bearings to tell this? Oddly they seem to be flaking....only two out so far. More pics tomorrow.
Thanks-
Given the recall the affected all e46 m3 rod bearings I would suspect they have been replaced.
Sure I can suspect they have been done but I was looking for concrete evidence, just for the sake of knowing what bearings coming out vs going in (BE Bearings/Clevite).
Thanks-
There is an id on the block. You can check with a dealer but since you are already in there it makes little difference. There is also a seal that should have been broken for them to be done. On all three of my engines the seal was broken.
ME:"I want to make my car faster and lighter"
THEM:" Get out and let someone else drive"
Thanks for the info! Agreed it makes little difference, was just curious - where is the seal you mention?
