    '83 633CSI Won't Start

My 633CSI won't start. I was having a battery issue and I purchased a new battery. When I try to start it the cat turns over about a quarter turn and just stops. The battery is new so I know it isn't that. I have jumped it with the same response. I have tried running a jumper cable from the battery to the starter to make sure it isn't the cable and i get the same response. It almost acts like a low battery but I know the battery is fine. I'm thinking the starter is the issue but I thought I would ask before pulling it out.

Sounds like excessive starter draw to me.

I've seen bad new batteries before. I'd try another battery by disconnecting the new battery then connect jumper cables to your car battery cables taking the new battery out of the circuit. If it cranks - bad battery.

I thought the same thing but I went and returned the first battery and it did the same thing. I also tried Jumper cables from my X5 and even a jumper box that will jump a 12 cylinder engine.

I noticed that the positive terminal is getting warm when I try to start it. I'm surprised there is no fuse for the starter. I looked at the wiring diagram and I don't see a fuse or relay. Is that correct?

Have you made sure your engine has a good ground? Was your starter working good before you replaced the battery? If so you'll have to pull starter and check it.

The starter was working before the battery replacement but I believe it was making a whining noise that sounded like a motor winding up in speed. The ground looks good and I even used the jumper cable from ground from the battery to the engine bolt to make sure that was good. Now the ground on the starter is a question as I can't see how the face attaches to the engine. There could be corrosion there and I won't know unit I take it out.
