I am driving a 2006 M5 60k miles. I had been noticing some weird things with the tranny lately, mostly just sluggish shifting, and such. I did a tranny flush as per the master DIY, not help. Last week I finally got a fault on the dash, an emission warning and service engine light so I decided to go out and get the cable and software for INPA. A bit of a challenge to get it functioning however I think I have it. I hooked it up to the machine and have 3 pages of codes???? I am not quite sure how to interpret them. Is it possible to see how old each code is? Are they listed in order of age. The ones I think are pertinent to my current situation from what I have researched so far are DME/DDE 2789 and 278A. Any help would be appreciated.
Use INPA to clear those old stored codes-start engine and go for a drive-until CEL,SES, or New codes reappear.
Post back with the new codes displayed by INPA.
Typically when i see a car like that i clear all of them out, then drive it and see what returns. After being around these cars for awhile you judt get to know what codes are important and what arent.
Also please post the full code, the bmw fault numbers mean nothing to me.
Drove the car about 20 miles yesterday, pretty hard, still with the bad clunky shifting, checked for codes when I got home.....and none were stored. I will report back when I get the codes.
Okay, put about 50 miles on the car today. Ran diagnostic and a :12 DME/DDE 2789 81" Popped up. As for ghost or hidden codes.....I do not know how to access them.
