So I am thinking about getting out of my project and parting out my 1988 M6.
But I dont have a clue how to price the engine.
It is the original s38b35 and has been fully rebuilt.
-.020 over 11:1 pistons
- new valves
- new timing everything
- blah blah blah, its all new
Do you guys have an idea of what I should be asking?
a healthy 4 digit for sure. they rarely go for sale, especially a rebuilt one.
2001 BMW 330ci Convertible
1989 BMW Schwarze 635csi Factory 5 Speed
1988 BMW Alpine Weiss 735i Factory 5 speed - Sold
1988 BMW Alpine Weiss 535is 5 Speed - Sold
1978 SAAB 99 Notchback Coupe ProRally - Sold
If it IS all new, has been put together properly, zero miles and..... has been bench dyno'd to check it is all okay, then $12.5k to $15k. If the buyer does not have surety he is getting a brilliant zero mile 320hp engine then $5k to $7.5k.
Providence is everything. If you have all the receipts, photos of the build and the buyer can talk to the engine builder, then a really good dollar.
1977 633 CSi RHD Euro. S38B38 3.9L M5 Transplant. 5 Speed Getrag Dogleg. 3.73 LSD. 417hp, 369lb/ft

I agree with Shipper. An MM rally build is $13k, but that does come with a warranty, and is dynoed 373HP/318 torque. In order to appeal, you need to be at a point where it is so affordable, it really pulls a buyer away from an MM engine. If you had receipts and the work was done by a reputable shop, then $7k is probably the most I would be willing to risk. Once you exceed that point, the extra $ are well worth it for peace of mind, and the ability to use my own block with matching numbers to my VIN.
