Mom's E39 wagon has some loose wires behind the grille as seen in this pic, any ideas on what they are for?:

The only wires I have in that location are the ones I added.

Yep, looks like a spade connector underneath the two cut wires. Maybe was power for a Valentine 1 forward looking sensor?

They are oem harness wires? Hmmm.... And no, they never had wiring for radar detectors, but my cars do.

Very hard to tell where they come from in the picture. Does your Aux Fan work (i.e. the one seen in the picture) it should run any time the AC is on and it is warm outside (above 60F or so).
If the fan does not run with the AC on watch it and have someone start the car it should turn on for a second or two to test it when the car starts.
That is the only thing i can think of that would be close to that area. Not sure if they are actually on the other side of the fan though.
