Ok so I came across an ad for a '95 318ti. It's had a lot of work done, but it has one problem. I've been talking with the current owner and this is the information I've gotten: It started rough idling just recently. It started out being drivable in that it would idle roughly and stall, but if you gave it gas it would stay running. The rough idle and running started after her his son was driving it and ran over some debris in the road which blew a tire. He's checked the compression, and it is in order. He's checked the plugs (which were changed not long before this), the wires, and the timing. All of that seems to be in order. He seems to think its a fuel problem. It doesn't have a check engine light on. He also says it runs a bit rich, smellable rich, but he doesn't smell gas.
So my question to you all: Is this going to bite me if I purchase it? Does anyone have any suspected causes?
I would check the idle stabilizer valve. The hose connection goes to the intake boot and another connection. Mine got split on the ends and came off and did the exact same thing. BOught a new one from FCPeuro.com
Doubtful you're still looking at the car, but for anyone having the same issue, mine started rough idling a few months back. Popped the idle control valve off, gave it a clean, and she was running happy
