I currently drive a 2006 330i auto and thoroughly enjoy it. Good gas milage, reliable (so far), but it is a bit cramped. I've always loved the E39, and the other day ran into a guy at my church who drives a 2003 540i M Sport 6spd and would sell it to me for $5k. I went over last night and drove the car and checked it all out - I was impressed. It has the DINAN stage 1 kit and everything else is stock and looks well taken care of. It has 115k miles vs 120k in my 330i. The one thing that I'm a bit nervous about is the dreaded timing chain guide breakdown. So what would you do? Pretty sure I can sell my 330i for around $6k or at least break even on the $5k purchase price of the 540.
(hope this works)

That's a great deal if everything is working. I'd go for it in a heartbeat.
Looks like Sterling Gray as well, lovely! That really is a steal. With that said, I would definitely try to get as much service history and background info that you can on the vehicle. See if he will run a carfax for you and proceed from there. I would also consider looking into a local indy shop that specializes in imports to do a PPI just to make sure the basics are in order. Best of luck!
