I know a lot has been talked about swapping new aftermarket Sat Nav in place of the OEM BMW Sat Nav units on the E53 X5's. But what about replacing the OEM BMW Sat Nav unit with a non-Sat Nav DVD touch screen unit? What is involved? DO I need to use the old unit in the rear for the aerial or power needs? Do I bypass the whole system? What impact on speakers? What cables are needed? Any advice?
Hi,
If you do mean the replacement clone type cheap chinese head units, then it's been discussed hundreds if not a few thousand times over every BMW forum! Take a look and search around and see if they're what you'd like. Aspects about fitting and which wires to connect/use/have etc have also been similarly discussed and there's variations depending on what the OEM setup was in your particular car. Depending on if you car has DSP for instance and if you wish to keep the DSP speakers or not, will make a difference in wiring and installation, if you want significantly improved audio performance and are or aren't open to changing the speakers will make a difference too.
If you can provide more of what you'd ideally like, then more specific replies can be provided!
Cheers, Dennis!
