Anyone ever have this issue? In park and neutral all is well but as soon as I put it in gear, the car dies unless I have my foot on the gas a little bit. Idle is at 1000rpm right now temporarily, it did not fix. 1993 325is, M50TU OBD1

Vacuum leak.
Nobody would recertify these machines after somebody screwed with them without any visibility into what they did.
HONK! HONK! Clown car coming through!

Sounds like your torque converter clutch is in lockup mode.
Smoke test for vacuum leaks. Check/clean IACV, make sure weight swings freely.
