Have anyone tried to do this seat conversion.

Have anyone thought of doing a seat conversion with other BMW convertible seats. Here are some example of some E93, 6 series convertible, E46 Convertible. Do you think it would be easy to do. Any thoughts?

This has been brought up a few times before. If you adapt the rails, sure you could use them...probably power them up to use the seat controls too, but you would definitely lose the memory functionality that coordinates with the steering column and mirrors. These seats are from an entirely different generation of cars, so even the belt tensioners would not work properly. You would have an airbag light, and some mild safety risk involved, but otherwise doable.

    Nope

You can work your way around many of the issues (AB light for example) but would definitely run into a few that would be unique and challenging to fix. I can guarantee you that a "hey, I just swapped out my seats for some from an e65 and now my mirrors/steering wheel don't move into place anymore - help" won't elicit anything constructive.

Doesn't mean don't do if it seems in your wheelhouse, but you will be the 1st. Please document though

I have swapped seats in pickup trucks, SUVs, 2nd gen f bodies etc, and I can't think of one vehicle where I was completely satisfied with the outcome. Take your car to an upholstery shop, with a picture of the seats style you want, and they will figure out how close they can get, based on the interior space, and style using the stock seat frames rails, electrics etc. At least that is where I would start.

I would rather keep my oem seats than replace them. Almost all the plastic and switches are broken, the release lever to fold the seats are either broken or missing. So I was looking at all my options before I started the process. This car was very close to being a parts car because of the condition it was in.

There are used seats and seat parts available. Just think of all the fun you are going to have, and how well you will know your 8 when you are done.

Let me know what you need. I have extra seats. The trim, switches, and backrest release handles can all be done with with the seats in the car, and they are cheap parts.
