I need someones help or advice. My ABs, 4x4, and Brake light all comes on after awhile of driving and then shuts off once I restart the car. I have a 2004 X3 2.5 BMW. I dont hear anything on the outside of the car and its driving normal. The check engine light came on months ago with a code reading P0442. Now its reading codesP0171 and P0174. The parts totaled $586 without labor. Is there a cheaper way to fix the issue and am I able to continue to drive the car? I am an expecting mother and full time nursing student trying to save money. Please HELP
Based on those codes, it seems like there is a small leak somewhere and the car is running a bit too lean. What are the parts that the shop is suggesting replacing?

Hi Brina, and welcome to the forum.
The codes which you're reading are not the codes needed to diagnose your warning lights. The car has dozens of computers, including the ABS module. P-codes are generic government-mandated mistranslations of emissions-related trouble codes, and are often grossly misleading when applied to a BMW.
There are actual BMW codes stored in many of your car's computers, which will tell you the real reasons the car's unhappy. You'll need to visit a BMW / Euro specialist shop, to get them read with a BMW diagnostic computer. The same BMW tech who reads the codes will probably want to smoke test the intake system to find the cause of the lean codes.
