hey i'm having a really weird issue with my e36. the battery is good, the alt is good, and im pretty sure the starter is good. My car wont crank and i tried bypassing the clutch safety switches, and getting a new key. It runs and drives fine with a push start. I tried a new ignition switch and even with the new one there isnt 12v at the yellow and blackwire when the key is in start position, only when in run. there are no fault codes. It wont start via the ignition no matter what i do, also doesn't dim or click when trying. Thanks
if you have verified that all stuff like the starter and battery are in working order, then I would suspect your EWS module. People on the forum say you can bypass it by cutting a wire. search around.
Your starter is bad.

Click the search button, select "search single content type", select the "e36 sub forum" specifically, try the "search titles" then try the "search entire posts".
Where is this EWS wire? Mine just left me stranded... battery is fine... just won't crank.

Casebrius, I've answered your thread on the Gen'l Mechanical forum. Don't chop any wires....this is bad information.

For anyone reviewing this thread, check ALL fuses related to OBD and make sure they are intact. Mine ended up being fuse 46 (95 M3). The OBC seemed to work fine, but that fuse was blown and prevented the car from starting.
