I believe that there are laws against putting a Z through a car wash.

Not recommended, though I have gone through a few times myself,
Only in emergency situations, of course!

I went through one yesterday. I asked the attendant first, and he said z4's come through there all the time... I didn't have any issues. The car wash I used had the spinning rollers. That being said, I don't know if I'll do it again.

Hand wash only for my rag top. It is my understanding that the soaps and waxes used at the automated car washes are not good for the top fabric. If I were ever to use an automated wash, which I cannot imagine why I would, it would be touchless only.

Never have, never will. If you have access to a hose, it doesn't take more than ten minutes to do by hand.

The chemicals they use for a touchless wash are even stronger. That, combined with the higher pressure spray, puts a lot of stress on the finish (the top and the drains, especially).

However, if you want to test your vehicle for leaks...

Oh, believe me, it is hand wash only for my roadster. The only time I would consider an auto car wash is for an emergency. Like when my wife's car got egged while we were at dinner while on vacation.

That steel wool tip is extremely dangerous since most "chrome" parts nowadays are painted plastic and steel wool will completely obliterate plastic with mild force...
