    Bought a 1989 750iL E32, Fools Errand or Awesome.

I need something to go cruise in. I've been looking for an 80's 535 or a 1970s BMW Bavaria. Apparently there aren't any left. So I took the next logical step and bought on of BMWs most complex cars from the 1980s. A 750iL. It the Long Wheel base 5.0L V12 model. The rear seats are electric and recline.

Here are a few pictures of it.

It was running on 6 cylinders when I got it. Half of the plug wires were broken. I just ordered new wires and plugs. I cleaned up the distributor caps and rotors. Yes that's one per side. Everything is doubled on this engine except the oil filter.

I've got the engine stripped now of everything that was in the way of getting the spark plugs out. I had to order new intake boots for it. They were dry rotted.

This is after I detailed the engine bay the best I could with the limited room there is.

The tail lights were broken. So I ordered some after maker units. So when they showed up yesterday I swapped them out.

Half the headlights are broken. Actually just the high beams. So I found some French headlights for the high beams and I'll swap them in when they arrive next week.

And the best part of it is, I only paid $550 for it. ha ha ha

    Mmm, not bad.

To get the plugs out, all you need to do is lift the washer tank and move the battery terminal out of the way.

You could have saved $$ with the plug wires, I have ignition wires for the M70 on stock. See my website below under shogun goodies.

Well crap. That would have been nice to know. They already shipped unfortunately. Otherwise I would have.

Anyone have a good source for distributor caps and rotors. I think mine are original.

Tomorrow I'm picking up some style 5s. These are the bolt together type. Not the one piece like I have currently. $200

Do not buy cheap no name distributor caps and rotors, too much trouble. Bosch, Bremi are o.k., FCPEURO has them on sale at the moment https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/75...90&m=20&page=1

Only the US had the LSD standard on the early models. The 3.64 was probably also a US thing. The 3.15 was standard across all build years in Europe. And LSD was an "pay extra" option untill the ASC+T became standard on the 750.

Well, nothing exciting to report really. Mostly waiting on some parts. Most of them should be here today.

I installed a new stereo, changed the oil and filter.

I also hit up a junkyard today and found most of the missing tool kit for it, got some trim pieces, and a front turn signal light.

Well I got it back together and running for the first time. But it sounds like I have a bad injector. So I guess I'll try running some cleaner through the tank. If that doesn't fix it, I'll have to get them rebuilt.

I also drove it around a little. It's very slow. So I also think the cats might be plugged up. Not sure yet. I'll figure it out though.

very slow? when you switch ignition on, does the EML light in the cluster come on and then disappear? If it never comes on and goes out or if it stays on = limp mode.

The EML comes on then shuts off when the engine is running.

    Looks like it's staying on.

That means the engine runs in limpmode. Do you have a diagnostic tool? Or make a stomp test, info on my website.
Can be many things causing limpmode, a defective donut, MAF, no spark on cylinder 6 or 12 where the donuts are, CPS, dirty throttle valve motors, distributors, rotors, defective fuel pumps, yes, the M70 has 2 of them, and so on

I found a used Peake Research BMW scan tool near me. I'm going to go buy it tomorrow. I'm not just going to start randomly replacing parts because that gets pricey

Ok. I was able to get rid of the eml light. One of the throttle control plugs wasn't in all the way

I can go through all the gears.

But I still don't have any power.

It feels like I'm driving a Volkswagen bug currently. No power and slow as hell.

I still have a check engine light.

Ok. Figured out the stomp test.

    I'm getting code 1222

I looked it up and it came up lambda control 1.

I'm trying to look that up now.

seems like I have a dead fuel pump. lol.

easy enough to fix at least. I'll order two new ones. Call it a day with some new fuel filters as well.

Then i just need to see if the rear wheel bearing is toast.

This car is a money pit, but easy to work on.
