    Sealant for UTC Gaskets??

Searched but didn't see an answer for this.

In the middle of VCG &UTC gaskets. I know where the sealant goes on the VCG. But I'm curious if any is required or recommended for the UTC gaskets. Looks like there's some crud at the corners of the UTC but not sure.

I'm not about extra sealant. Just want to do it right. If right is no sealant that's fine. Lemme know.

    Thanks!!

I put a dab at each corner where the UTC/LTC/block meet. Any time you have 3 pieces coming together in one spot a little help is a good idea. Also on the VCG the half circles and the UTC/block/VC junction.

Also, if you haven't done the UTC covers before, do many full test fits and be sure you are able to get the top of the UTC flush with the top of the head before putting any sealant, or you'll be fiddling with it trying to race the drying sealant. Ask me how I know...

haha. Thanks, man! I got the driver's side done but didn't put any sealant on there. I doubled up the washers on the front four VC bolts and put torqued it down without the VC gasket on it (using it like the tool they sell to get things flush). I guess I'll pull it all back off and put sealant on it?

Up to you. You know what is involved to get back there if you need to. A lot depends how flush the top of the LTC gasket was with the top of the LTC when compressed. If it isn't perfectly flush, the UTC gasket is going to have difficulty conforming to the transition.

It's perfectly flush. So I'm happy about that. We will see. I may just have to see how the passenger side goes. Got it off, new gasket on. Dry fitted. Will seal it w some silicon on Monday when I get back to things. Depending on how that goes will determined if I pull off the drivers side and redo w sealant. Appreciate the feedback.

Silicon is a hard metal at room temperature. Won't work here.

    Just to re-vote for this.

Not sure the type of sealant matters too much - guys get all wound up about black/gray/blue/copper RTV but unless you need the O2-friendly stuff not sure it matters much at all. I use Reinz brand RTV myself, but an anaerobic sealer (hondabond/yamabond or generic permatex etc. anaerobic) would also be fine I'm sure. anaerobic is probably far and away the best seal, but RTV works 100% fine and when comes time to re-do RTV will clean up a lot better.
