    Pulling a thread on a sweater......HVAC issues

Summertime brings HVAC issues and so it goes with my e32...
Long story short, there was a bad leak in the system. I pulled out the Evaporator, you do need to remove the radiator fill tank at center rear of engine bay along with the rear engine splash guard in order to make your life easy.....
After accessing the area where the aluminum hoses go through the firewall it was obvious that the hi and low pressure pipes will need to be replaced if I, or the next owner, is to have a proper functioning AC system for the foreseeable future. I had IMG_0215.jpgIMG_0216.jpg o physically cut the pipes in two separate locations because the screws has corroded severely and were not going to budge. I'd recommend spraying the rubber grommet that the two aluminum pipes run through with WD40 in order to allow the pipes to ease through the gasket.
I need a new Evaporator, expansion valve and a set of alimunium pipes that run from the expansion valve, through the firewall to the main AC pipes in the engine bay. Does anyone have the part numbers for the above and can any member recommend a brand that you have used?
    Thanks
    James

There is some discussion on bigcoupe.com about replacing hard pipe with soft lines and aeroquip E-Z clip connectors. While the lines are a bit fatter, they can be snaked through the firewall.

But not sure I can identify the part that you have in the picture

    Could be this:

What is the VIN? When we have that, we can check in detail.
I now took a 03/1993 740iL US spec, click here on the pics to enlarge and then they show part numbers http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...MW-740iL&mg=64
all the o-rings are shown here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=64_1822
or just buy a box R134a o-rings from your fav car accessories shop

    Thanks Shogun
Using my VIN to search for Part Number 74.318.11.002 I was unable to source it on that site. I searched the Evaporator section and found a pipe that goes to the same fitting but has a different part number 64.111.379.002. The part looks slightly different but I am unable to locate the original part anywhere. Is there a way to find out if the part number thats on my original piece was updated to the part thats on the website you forwarded?

Send or post the last digits of your vin. Keep in mind, realOEM is not exact (it may show a part for a different market, but the number you need will be correct) and BMW did make revisions to parts.

Question though, did you locate the leak? The lines are pretty good quality. Normally the only places I see leaks are in the engine by area. And the drier is located in a horrible spot and prone to corrosion. The drier was the only issue with my AC. $20 later and a refill, no problems since.

    Thanks for replies guys.
After pulling out the Evaporator, expansion valve and the associated pipework I think I will follow up on Sansouci' idea and fit flexible pipes. The current setup has three connecting joints for 2 pipes which gives you 6 opportunities for an O ring leak on either of two length of pipe which are no greater than 18" in length. Poor design.......
I will follow up on the results.
Next task is pulling the drier and replacing all O rings on the system.

If I were you, I would grab a parallel flow condenser off ebay and ditch the tube-fin style condenser. A lot of the E24 guys go this route and reported significant improvement with R134a cooling.
