Really not happy about this, especially considering 9 out of 10 teams voted against it.
Just read that. Really hasty decision by the FIA, especially since 9/10 teams voted against it. The halo will do nothing to prevent accidents like Justin Wilson's or Felipe Massa's.

Certainly a horrible decision. I'd even expect it to cause more problems and safety issues, without ever helping anyone's safety. Maybe FIA just wants to start irresponsibly driving around with tractors on the track again...
BMWs are fun in the snow too...
Wrong thread guys.

Jean Todt needs road car relevance.

The penis noses of 2014 were a byproduct of a regulatory change, but now we're seeing the FIA actually mandate ugliness---a year after they explicitly required aesthetic "improvements" like swept wings.
$20 says in their collective minds, any detractors are anti-safety or some garbage like that. The majority of us are just fine with the canopy, or even the aeroscreen.

Apparently Ferrari was the only team that actually voted FOR it. I have no idea.
What's hilarious to me is that they ran the halo at like 15 events before making a decision, and then they ran the shield for 30 minutes at Silverstone before dismissing it. C'mon.

Seb said the shield distorted his vision and made him "nauseous", and that the low pressure area behind the shield forces air behind the helmet, pushing the driver's head forward. Didn't hear anyhing else after that.
I don't think they have displayed a tangible benefit (let alone a need) for this change. It wouldn't have helped Jules, and who knows if it would've doe anything for Massa.
Fia should focus more on helmet and the HANS design rather than focusing on the shield or the halo, or whatever.
F1 is going down the tubes.
Shame too, with some of the great drivers coming up.
Let's sanitize everything about it. Change it's DNA. Democratize it to be accessible to everyone. Let's fill the garages with f'n promo stunts and milk it for all its worth.

you guys are reading it wrong, what if Ferrari found an aerodynamic benefit from it? (since they are the ones that where in favor) and have a leg up on everyone since they were the original testers of the tripod configuration

Perhaps by 2020, we can remove all cars from the track and pack the drivers into a warehouse full of simulators each weekend.
Hulkenberg, Verstappen and Magnussen were the only ones in the press conference to be strongly against the halo.
Sad what a bunch of effeminate ninnies there are in F1 today.

Whiting can go pound sand. "Little bit of pushback" is the understatement of the year.“Teams haven’t explored the full range of possibility to make them look a little more pleasing to the eye,” said Whiting.
“They will come up with some pretty different designs, so I don’t think it will be quite as bad as you think.
“At the moment we’ve only seen bare designs. Even when Williams ran with a white one, the same colour as the car, it looked a lot better. I think fans will get used to it – I know there’s a little bit of pushback at the moment.

^ Yeah, just a little pushback!
You can polish a turd all you want, Charlie.Teams haven’t explored the full range of possibility to make them look a little more pleasing to the eye
If 2017 is the last year I tune into F1 so be it. Last straw.
both solutions are likely to make more safety issues than they fix. IMHO only proper fix is go full closed cockpit with doors. I cant see it being too easy to get out of an upsidedown car with either of these devices, but a door atleast opens an area for egress.
If you want ugly open wheel cars, watch IndyCar.
