Backstory: I took the pan and the valve body out to test the solenoids, after all of them read 5.4ohms and the black one read 10.9 ohm, I put everything back together. I filled the car with new trans fluid and now it has strange behavior and won't start. The electrical connector wire is loose, the mount to the side of the transmission is fine, but the wire wiggles. Also, the small display in-between the tach and the speedo only shows the gear when the old bad battery is in the car. No matter what it always says "N" but the gear selector moves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4bUnYL0bfs <---- that is what I am talking about.

Also, the mpm fried and caught on fire when the battery was plugged back in, only the thin brown wire melted.
When reinstalling the mechatronics connector it is possible to either not plug it in fully OR bend the pins on the transmission. Seen both happen
aside from the you must have reassembled something incorrectly
There was some rod I did not have back in its slot. Like a shift selector rod. Totally my error in not paying attention. I forget exactly the details but it was on one side of the valve body
That's your gear selector valve. Glad you got it resolved
What's an MPM? Aren't you concerned that it "fried" when the battery was plugged back in?

I found the gear selector rod. It was not put in correctly so i put it in. Now the gears are incorrect i.e park shows D drive shows R reverse shows P. Also, the car still wont start
It may still not be correctly in place. I think I had the issue you describe with showing the wrong gear. I vaguely recall getting help on 5 series dot net. I use the same screen name there. Would have been around May or June 2015.
