Hi,
I recently picked up an automatic 2007 BMW 335i with sport paddle shifting. The symptom is when I move from Park down to Drive, it shifts into M1. From M1 I can shift manually up to M2, but can't go past M2. This is true while driving also, I cannot go past M2 which limits me at around 20 mph.
I have pulled my code list from INPA. The code that concerns me the most is A0B1 which "A0B1 Input, selector lever/clutch switch, implausible".
Any suggestions on where I should start? I have pulled up the automatic shifter gate and soldered the broken wires together (common symptom of not being able to shift into sport mode). I was thinking of changing the ATF fluids, but didn't want to spend money where it wasn't necessary.

Welcome to the Forum!
Have you attempted to clear all the codes in the DME as well as the EGS to see which one come back right away?
Be sure to screen shot each page, as there is more info with each code(s)
Next go for a drive and see if any other code(s) populate into the system. At the same time you can watch the live data to see what is going on, for this I would take a friend to drive the car while you watch.

Thank you for the quick response! I will clear the codes tonight. If I clear through INPA will it clear both the DME and EGS? I'll have to google this a little haha. I'll clear codes and come back with updates tonight.
You will have to go into each. While they both will talk to each other, in such that a transmission code will set a check engine light.

So I pulled these two codes even after the reset on the transmission.
1) 5087
2) 511B (apparently common with Alpina Flash)
The 5087 appears to be my issue with not being able to go past M2. Any tips on how to resolve this?

Stop.
Stop.
Don't try anything else until you get the transmission coded correctly.
When was the Alpina transmission flash done? Why no coding after?
5087 = "Hardware Inputs inching function" Whatever that means.

I got "Hardware Entrances Tip Function".....whatever THAT means. My guess is that there's a bad transmission shifter switch; either at the shifter, or at the trans itself. That's only a guess; I'd be hooking up ISTA to follow a guided test plan for the faults.
But yeah.... "ERROR CODING" is problem #1 !

Thw Alpina flash was done by the previous owner. Any tips on how to flash back to factory transmissiom settings? Do you think this will help the issue?
Regarding the transmission switch. I bought a used automatic shifter assemnly on ebay. Does anyone have a good DIY? I saw one on youtube, but it involved removing most of the interior and lifting the car to get to the shifter cable. Thanks again for the help!
You can keep the Alpina flash, but code the transmission with NCSExpert. All the Alpina flashes I have done (+ coding) never threw codes.
I don't think it's the Alpina flash, but coding needs to be correct first. It may even correct other errors.

Could you point me in the right direction to recode the transmission? Is it an easy overwrite? I do have NCSExpert, but have never used. I'll try to do some research after work. Appreciate the tips!
If you have internet access to the diagnostics laptop, I can log in real quick with teamviewer program and do it for you. It won't take long. You would just need to download and install teamviewer (basic installation, don't create any accounts), and PM me when you are available.

Thanks to 328 Power 04, no more errors. However I still have the issue of not being able to shift past M2. When I go into drive, it automatically switches to M1. I'm thinking of a transmission replacement. Anyone have a DIY for that? Thanks!
Isn't M1, M2 the manual shifting mode? Can you try to put it into an automatic mode? No errors out of the transmission has me skeptical of needing a transmission swap.

Just to give an update, someone on facebook recommended I pull the paddle shifter switch (apparently they can fault out and confuse the transmission). This solved the M1/M2 issue! I however have a new issue now with these two codes being thrown. 4F86 & P17E9. My next steps is to reset the codes and adaptation to see if this solves the issue, if not I will be dropping the transmission pan and replacing the fluids. The strange thing is even after the reset, when I put it into drive it moves me into D1.
INPA Error Code Description from Google
4F86 Ratio-monitoring Symptom Circuit-monitoring
P17E8 Ratio monitoring Shift 3-4
Did you ever find out what the P17E9 code is? I'm getting it and have not seen an explanation on any of the OBD code sheets I've found.
I was trying to find out how to replace my transmission cable on my 08 535i
