Nice car there! I wish mine was Oxford Green sometimes.

Not sure if anyone would learn anything from the article though, unless they were in a coma since 1989.

Agreed... The writers clearly stayed near the surface in attempt to maintain broad audience appeal. That, and they are probably Ill-informed on the subject matter to begin with.

I've always been a fan of the v12 and viewed the v8 e31 as an econo box for philistines unable to count past 8, I have to admit an s62 in this with a rebadging to 840csi would have been pretty dope.

Autocar is rarely more than skin deep reporting...mostly pretty pictures and generic facts. BMW Car is much more in depth, although it's quality has dwindled as of late, too.

I love my e31 body style, but I think I'd love it less if I did not have to count past 10 when taking inventory of spark plugs ;-). An S62 and a manual would certainly make a strong case though!

Would you be ok counting 'up to' 10 for die Zündkerzen inventory check? I still want to know more about that S85 powered V10 manual (Alpine white) that was parked at Bimmerfest. There's always the S65 M3 engine too, but I'd think it would be too high strung for the E31. The V10 would seem to be *the* fitting upgrade especially with a manual (if you could find a wrecked E63/E64 from the whopping 701 they brought into the states and Canada).

Sure! No disrespect to the V8 lovers out there but IMHO V10 or V12 are both exotic enough to match the e31 body. V8 certainly makes for a nice car drivers car, but no one goes "wow" when you open the hood

While I do agree that the v12 is what put the 8 on the map and makes it more collectable, there are few available to the common man. I don't think people really go wow when you open the hood on an s85 either. You can't even tell it's +2. Also as stated, v8 is a better driver, isn't this the ultimate driving machine?

Absolutely agree here. There is no excuse to get the facts wrong when there is so much info out there.

As for the V10. A hugely unreliable, thirsty and temperamental engine really is not what is needed for an E31. The best solution would have been the bulletproof S62 from the V8 M5 in manual transmission together with the v12 6.0 from the last 760i in auto.

Is there any manual options for the later? Maybe SMG?

If this is one of the M62-equipped 6-speed 840Ci Sports, it's a very rare beast indeed - just three (3) of them were produced in RHD.
A friend of mine owns one of the other two (in Hellrot), being the only example to be sold new here in NZ.

The one in the article is an automatic and is in the UK presumably.

Ah yes....I should have looked more carefully at the pictures!
Would have to disagree with them and say: "The 840Ci Sport with M62 and 6-speed manual is arguably the best-resolved 8 Series of all"

Haha my Kiwi friend I have to agree wholeheartedly there (as I am in the process of buying one!) but you had best review the previous posts on this thread to see what spirited commentary ensued from statements like that!
