E36 318i Hesitating under full throttle

New to the forums as Norweigan bimmer forums gave me no luck

So i have been having this issue for quite a while, when i go full throttle, the engine seems to hesitate around 4k RPM and then the power comes on again later, aswell as when the engine approaches redline the power just dies off (in only some gears i think, not sure).

Another symptom is that if i press the gas pedal 75%, i get normal power, but as i push it to the floor (100%) it seems to just loose power.

Also when the car is cold and i keep the RPM not high enough while letting out the clutch, it will bog down alot as if it chokes itself abit and recover to idle, turning the wheel to full lock can also cause this sometimes.

I changed out the rubber inntake duct a while ago, so theres atleast no air leak there.

Anyone have an idea what this could be?

Im just feeling i dont get the power i should be having. :P

I think you still have intake leaks, and the only real way to make sure is to do a pressurized smoke test of the intake.

What else have you tried? Have you checked mass air flow sensor function?

Is your engine with DISA valve? Have you scanned for codes?

    Thanks for the reply!

Unplugging the MAF makes it run like crap so i believe thats in order.

I am fairly certain the M43B18 has a disa valve as ive googled around.

Also ive tried some cheap scanners and more exspensive ones with the adapter (round one, since theres no OBD2) but none will communicate with the car.

As for a smoke test, i have not tried that nor do i have a handheld smokemachine but i guess starting gas could do the same job?

If it runs worse with maf unplugged, you should look into other causes such as fueling.
When it is MAF or vacuum leaks, it will run better with MAF unplugged.

Yes, the M43 B18 has a DISA, and if it fails, at 4k rpm you will feel more of a jolt and a loss of power, not just a loss of power.

There is a Schrader valve on the fuel rail, see about checking the fuel pressure to test the pump. You will want to do this a idle, WOT, and of course the time when it gets to that RPM range.

If you own a laptop with either a Serial port or a USB, you can get a cable for INPA for around 30 bucks from EBay. INPA will give you the live data and codes you need to help solve this problem.

Ill have to get one of those cables, sounds like a good idea.
As for testing the fuel pressure, ill have to look into that as ive never done it before
