Dealer says the pump needs to be rebuilt. It's my daughter's car. I have a hard top and am thinking about just using that and forgetting about the convertible top, as she is heading to college next month, and I'm worried about a convertible top being stolen where she is going to have to park it. My wife told the dealer to take the pump out and fix it before she talked with me. So now the pump is out and they're quoting me $1200 to rebuild and reinstall it. Can I just bring the pump home and sit it in the garage and put the hard top on it? Will it drain hydraulic fluid all over the car if I do that? And is there any way to get the convertible top down without the pump? If so, I'd be very tempted just to leave the pump out completely.
