    4th to 5th gear shift

    Hello

My e39 525D , have the same engine and transmission of 530D if U dont know:

i have notice since i bought the car that sometimes when the trottle is at 50% more less , the shift between 4th and 5th is a little bit jerk, the car shift to 5th gear always at 2K RPM like normal but if i am at 50% trottle when he reaches to 1900rpm e jumps alone to 2000Rpm then shift smooth , he jumps 100rpm between 1900 to 2000rpm alone like if torque converters Unlock before the shift, otherwise if i past the 3500 rpm he shifts normal ,or if i barely take de acelerator he shifts smooth too.

If i am Down a hill he shifts smooth to 5th too

this only happens when i am 50% aceleration and only happens in this transition (4th to 5th) the others are smooth like new.

The car never change the fluid and filtrer and have 335K KM

note : IF i use the cruise control the shift between 4th and 5th is very smooth too.

    what could be ???

    Welcome to the forums!!

I know you have a manual but when my auto-trans was acting up (hard shifts AND trans failsafe), I changed the fluid (3x with the final being Amsoil Euro) and filter (OE). That was at around 120k (miles) and the shifts have been smooth ever since...currently at 235k!

I would recommend fresh fluid as it's a low cost, possible solution...just my 2-cents. GL...

EDIT: Have you done the CDV delete?

He has an auto, if I read the post correctly.

I suspect the trans is worn out at this mileage w/o a fluid change. BMW now concedes to a 160 km fluid and filter change. At this mileage, it's probably a waste of money.

the transmission is awsome in all shifts even the 4th to 5th gear is smooth when shift up at 3000rpm but i start to think that this just could be two things:

Torque converter unlocked just milisenconds before the shift because the oil is dirty and old , OR a outdate software , i dont think that the trans is bad , because he shift smooth and never slip she kickdowns very well too.

I would make a fluid and filtrer change , and i think she going to perform so much better , i hope

You need to drain and refill the pan 3 times to get most of the old stuff out. Make sure the trans is at 30-55 deg C for final top-up.

Engine running condition has a big influence on how your transmission behaves.

+1...was told the same thing over 115k back. IMO it's worth it even if it doesn't fix the issue because it confirms one way or the other and it's a fairly low cost effort IF it does fix the issue.

Thx for the answers , i already seen on youtube some BMW and audi with torque converter gearbox doing the same thing , some times rpm go up 100rpm then shift smooth like mine and this cars that i had seen are from up to 2014 and the audi was from 2017 , so they dont have any problems with gearbox, u can see what im talking about in the video above :

MINUTE 8:32 WATCH CLOSILY THE SHIFT AND RPM UP 100RPM BEFORE SHIFT , MINE DOES MORE LESS THE SAME THING BUT MORE SLOWLY BUT SHIFTS SMOOTHLY TOO , LIKE THIS
