Unexpected Revving 2014 328ix

Hi All! Today I experienced a weird (to me) thing: my engine revved all on its own as if I was in the wrong gear! It only lasted a few sec but enough 2 scare me. Circumstance: Left car running w/AC on (friend in the car; 83* temps) & took key fob w/me, jumped in car 3 min. later, drove off when it revved 2 different times--once while in the car lot & once @ stop light. Trans problem or just car confused bc fob out of range while running? (BTW, push button start w/o fob insert--2014 328ix) Trying 2 troubleshoot w/o expensive shop! Thx!!

With out diagnostic tools you can't fix it, we had a one series recently that was doing a Reving thing there was a sib for it we programmed the complete car, fixed.

As the previous member said, a scan tool is needed to pull the codes to see exactly what's going on. It could be a spark plug issue.
