    OEM run flat replacement?

We picked up a CPO 2015 335xi manual w/ 25k miles and have put about 2K miles on it.

We're both old enthusiasts w some track time ( I trail brake and H/T on the street, my wife not so much) but this car is our DD mule.

OEM Pirellis are about half done. PO used snow tires in the winter, we'll be running all season RFT.

ONLY THING I DONT LIKE ABOUT THIS CAR - is the tire noise on imperfect surfaces which are everywhere around here.

Looking at early replacement but gotta believe there's something better than the OEM Pirellis.

Thanks in advance for any experiences/insights/ recommendations

That would be the 225/45/18? Which Pirelli's are on it? I think all RF are noisy but if you are on their P Zeros those are supposed to be one of the better RF out there. I did a lot of research before dumping the RF on my 5 Series. Bridgestone Driveguard or Pirelli P7s are highly rated RF tires at 225/45 including winter use. If the wheels would accommodate a 245/40 there are more options like Pilot Sports.

It might be just the runflat that doesn't feel right. P7s are a Tirerack recommended tire with above average performance but one of their weakest ratings is for noise (6.8 out of 10). The Bridgestone Driveguards are a Tirerack's class leader in 225/45 All Season RF with a noise rating of 8.3 and other strong performance numbers so if noise is the issue the difference should be substantial.

Thanks, still gonna wear on the P7s til next year, then it looks like DriveGuards then

Used to drive 40k a year for work, and remember noise getting worse as tires wore out. However I'm cheap enough to live with it

Had the All Season Driveguards put on this morning.

Much quieter on the way home than the worn P7s

Good test , as this is peak heave/pot hole season around here

( got these at my "go to" tire store as opposed to for same price at Dealer. Dealer had mis inflated tires before AND when they remounted after snows from previous owner they had a load of balance weights on them, a sure sign of inexperience. The sophisticated BMW suspensions and sensitivity to tires to me means that Dealer Techs are not up to the task)

The Driveguards are the best riding run flat tire on the market. In our testing they handled better than the Conti's that BMW uses as well. I think you made a good choice.

Well, there is a twist in this tale.

Returning from a trip this PM on the charming NYS Thruway one of the many potholes snuck up on me ( I think)

Loud bang, LF warning light. We managed to limp the last 30 miles home.

At home. we find the LF side wall split and a bulge in the bead of the LR. Tires have 800 miles on them.

Anyway, towed to dealer where I'll request in addition to tires a full inspection of the wheels and underside of the car.

Anything else I should check. Any other suggestions Jim@Tirerack.?

The only other thing I can think of is the alignment. If it is two tires the onew we sell do come with a two year road hazard protection so if it were to happen again you are covered for the price of the tires.4C6A1FF651EE11E8AA59843DC6EB2E60

Two new tires AND two new wheels needed.

    Hell of a pothole.

Underbody inspection OK. After Alignment a total of $2500 so far
