    Colour change?"?

The car needs a repaint. Micro blisters caused by a wet cold winter.
I am thinking of Cosmos black, it's a very deep blue. Individual colour.
I had a M3 e30 in this colour years ago. Loved it.
I will be selling the KS8 in less than 2 years but want to enjoy the E31 looking at its best.
    comments and surgestions welcome.

I would recommend keeping it the same. The repaint will be easier, and blue is beautiful on an E31. But...its your car, and your pounds!

A color change is a major undertaking to do properly on a normal car, I can't imagine what it would be like to do on an 8. If you are planning to sell within the next decade, I would stay with the same color, as you will not get your investment in the color change back. JMHO. But for all I know, you may own a body shop.

Those type of blisters are usually in a water based clear coat, Most cases you can have it color sanded and a new clear coat applied and polished, Done!

    Don't!!!
Stay away from a color change in any shape or form. It is by far the biggest car value killer and turn off (second to a salvage title).
I did that to a previous car and learned my lesson. Look for it and get the color you want as it came from the factory. I'm a Red and Yellow colors lover. Red is easy to find, yellow not so much. Yellow is where I made my mistake and will never do so again. My next yellow will be 100% factory original.

Some years ago I bought an 850i color change...black to dakar yellow. A prior owner had the engine dropped, interior, glass and doors/hood/truck lid removed removed. Truly an outstanding job with people not being able to tell that it was done. I really do not think it hurt the value because it was a flashy car with sport seats, 6 speed and a ton of expensive upgrades and some service history. The purist would not come near it , but there are those out there who liked it...sold it in 1 day!! It cost the prior owner $10K for the paint job, and I had plenty of electrical problems due to improper reassembly. I would say a color change...NO, too expensive to due right. As cheap as these cars are, I am sure anyone could find some color they like and save a lot of $ and trouble. I looked around and found a silver car that is really the color I wanted, besides being an original stock one owner car.

First @ Eights. The blisters are in the primer coat (yellow)
the car was repainted 8 years ago, the blisters appeared 4 years ago and have got worse every year..
I have been in dispute with the painter for 4 years.
last week he agreed the damage was caused by water in his air line. (after I left negative revue on his Facebook)

@Alex where will I find a cosmos black Koenig special ?
none for sale. None in cosmos black.
I agree colour change is not a good idea but I retire next year and will sell the car looking its best. Red or black.

sixspeed.jpgI just bought a repaint. A six speed. Used to be white, painted to black, nothing on the carfax to state why this occurred. I've had several professionals remark how well the repaint was done. Because of the repaint the car had a tough time selling. It was the reason why I was able to buy it at such a good price. I'm quite happy with the purchase as there was considerable repair and maintenance prior to my ownership.

If it was by choice, I'd paint an e31 in Dakar yellow. Probably my most favourite BMW colour.

The problem with a paint change is the high cost to do it properly given most everything has to be removed. As one member already stated, you run the risk of introducing gremlins that didn't exist prior to tearing the car apart. Currently the value of these cars isn't where it needs to be to justify that expenditure (from a strictly financial perspective). Now if money is no object, the car has sentimental value to you, or you don't care if the engine bay/door jams, etc match the exterior, then it's probably worth it.

I have a Cosmos black e39 touring, it's a really nice colour! It seems to change between black, dark grey, dark blue, and dark green depending on the light.

Though I understand, it's a shame so many look at the car in terms of financial investment instead of pure enjoyment. If you don't like your car colour, or just want a change and can afford it, seems a shame to let something like resale value affect your real life enjoyment. It's a car after all, not an investment portfolio.

I'm not a fan of red cars, so I'm biased and in the minority I know , so I'd be all over a Cosmos paint switch!
