If I make mid to high 250's with the 264 cams I'd be pleased

That is no problem. 10 years ago people were making 265 rwhp with 264/256 schricks.

Volloso just tuned a Schrick car to that range on a low reading dyno in 100º weather. I watched it happen lol. It's definitely within the range of possibility.
Also, I'm fairly certain that you can use the springs from an M50 non vanos head. From what I recall they are dual springs and are significantly stiffer than any other valve springs in the M5x/S5x family. I went supertech because my cams are even more aggressive, but I was seriously considering them for a while.
Check out this thread. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-vs-M52-vs-S52
Also, fun tip: Google image search for 'M50 non vanos valve spring' will turn up some of the photos from that thread that are no longer visible thanks to photobucket.

Well, need to order a rebuilt vanos from VAC, so I'll just get those OEM+ valve springs from them too.

Yeah, me too! Only thing I'm bummed about is that this didn't happen at the end of my season so I'd have the time to rip it apart myself.

OK, everything is ordered and on its way. Here's the run down
Schrick 264/256 cams
Epic Tuning for cams
S54 Oil filter housing
Euro E36 OEM oil lines and oil cooler
Bimmerworld Vanos line banjo bolt
Bimmerworld Oil filter housing thermostat bypass kit
Bimmerworld Oil cooler mounting kit
VAC rebuilt Vanos unit
VAV OEM+ valve springs
Camshaft and crankshaft sensors
ARP head studs
I'll let the shop order up all the gaskets, heater core hoses, etc. Head will go to the machine shop to get checked out. Sending the car to the shop next Friday.

Going with a cometic head gasket. Shop will choose the thickness to give adequate piston/valve clearance but allow a bump up in compression ratio

I would skip the cometic but my experience is with thicker ones for forced induction. I don't think the very minimal, probably unnoticeable extra power from a thinner gasket is worth the reduced reliability of the gasket and of moving the valves closer to pistons with stock reliefs particularly when using a higher lift cam. For a built NA motor, I might consider pistons that add some CR if I ran on 93 octane.
Hmm, good point. So which head gasket set should I get? OEM, Victor Reinz or Elring?

Elring.
Go with OEM head gasket
Old set up: 520RWHP & 500RWTQ @ 20PSI 1/4 mile as of 7/26/15 12.5 @ 125MPH - 19PSI
New set up: Steedspeed Twinscroll, Wiseco Pistons 8.8:1 CR, K1 Rods, Blueprinted and Balanced, ARP Main Studs, o-ring block, GTR 12mm head studs, GT35R with 86mm HTA billet compressor wheel (GT3586RHTA) TwinScrol 1.06 exhaust housing, Nick G custom tuning, 6 Speed Transmission, UUC Twin Disc Clutch, UUC EVO III, UUC DSSR 109mm, EVO 6 Speed Driveshaft, HFS-6 W/M injection, Zeitronix data logger, 3" SS full exhaust, Rallyroad strut bar, X brace, Race coilovers.
Elring is good. Reinz sucks

Interestingly enough, the Victor Reinz gasket set is quite a bit more expensive than the Elring one.

And just like that the dream is dead...
No idea what I'm doing yet. Maybe rolling it off a cliff. Any interest in a big cam, built head before I shove her over? LOL
