    Touring hatch manual override.

My hatch quit opening today and I did some searching around and it seems like I should be able to open it with the key. Mine won't open with the key so is there any other way to open the hatch? Is there no mechanical connection between the lock cylinder and the latch?

    Thanks guys!

Yes, it should open by turning the key left, as if unlocking the driver's door. If that doesn't work, you'll need to find the wire for the hatch motor, inside the left cargo-area storage bin (where the CD changer lives if you have one), and jump it.

So after a couple days it just started periodically working depending on the angle of the hatch. Usually it wont work when its all the way up but somewhere in the middle it starts working. Is it safe to say that I am going to have to dig into the hatch wiring on the left side then? The right side wiring was just done a year ago so that side should be good for now.

Yes, that circuitry is on the left/port side. I don't recall what's on the right/starboard side but it doesn't seem to fail nearly as often.

I checked mine, using the key is a mechanical mechanism so it should open with the key by turning it to the left.

I will have to look into mine a bit more because after I removed the panel on the tail gate I noticed that I could not get the key to move the rod on the back of the lock that actuates the latch mechanism. Im pretty sure I'm turning it through its full sweep too.
