confused on whether I can program a second remote to my 2009 X5? I have the AK90+.
Yes, you should be able to program multiple keys based on the updated version (until 2009).

Is this an official key purchased from a BMW dealership? Or a used key purchased off ebay or the internet that does NOT have your vehicles encryption key codes? Also, if you don't have comfort access option...can't you just insert a new key into the slot...and it will program the key (to lock/unlock)? Do you actually need to use the AK90 in the case of a 2009 model year (9/2008-up build date)?
BTW, if one doesn't know if they have CA (comfort access option)...you can tell by the type of remote key you have. The remote keys with the CA option have a REPLACEABLE battery...which means the remote was designed to be opened so that the key's battery can be replaced when it becomes completely discharged.
The non CA remote keys have a rechargeable battery...which means the remote key case is sealed.
{CA remote key - uses a replaceable battery}

Yes it is a CA remote. But I did not find the EWS module under the dash. EWS, has now morphed into CAS (car access system) in the next iteration (EWS 4/CAS). so I'm guessing I can't program it with the AK90+ ?
